Along with so many great benefits to using the VA Home Loan program, another major draw is that your benefits never expire. Whether you’re considered a Post-9/11 veteran or you served in the Vietnam era, if you once qualified for the VA Home Loan program, you’re still eligible. As long as you meet at least one of the following conditions, you are eligible to use the program for life:

  • You served 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime
  • You served 181 days of active service during peacetime
  • You have served more than six years of service in the National Guard or Reserves
  • You are the spouse of a service member who has died in the line of duty, or as a result of a service-related cause

So, if you’ve thinking about using your VA Home Loan benefits, know that it’s never too late. Even if you currently own a home, you can still refinance with the Interest Rate Reduction Refinancing Loan (IRRRL) and possibly lower your rate and monthly payment.
